Explanation available online for proposed charter amendments on 2022 general election ballot

The 2022 general election is just a few weeks away and Kaua‘i voters will have the chance to weigh in on several proposed changes to the county charter.

Four charter amendments have been proposed by the Charter Review Commission and will appear on the general election ballot. The amendments are as follows:

• Shall the county charter be amended to require future elections for prosecuting attorney occur at the same time as the county’s regularly scheduled elections?
• Shall the charter be amended to remove article 30, which allows the county council to create an electric power corporation?
• Shall the charter be amended to give the Salary Commission the authority to establish the maximum salary for elected and appointed officials?
• Shall the charter be amended by removing the portion of Section 19.17 that requires surety bonds for certain officers and employees?
